Noorani Qaida and Quran Basics
The right place to start. Your child learns the Arabic letters, the sound each one makes, and how they join together, before opening the Quran itself.
Who this course is for
- Children aged roughly four and above who are starting from the beginning
- Students who can recognise some letters but cannot yet join them
- Adults who want a proper foundation before moving to the Quran
- Anyone who learned quickly as a child and wants to correct their basics
What you will learn
- Recognising all 29 Arabic letters by sight and by sound
- The correct mouth position for letters that English does not have
- Short vowels (fatha, kasra, damma) and then the long vowels
- Sukoon, shaddah and tanween, one step at a time
- Joining letters into words, then words into short sentences
- Reading the shorter surahs with the teacher listening closely
How the lessons run
Lessons are one to one, so the teacher hears every single letter and corrects it as it happens rather than letting a mistake settle in. Most families choose three to five short lessons a week, because young children learn far better in short, frequent sessions than in long ones. Your teacher will tell you what to practise between classes.
How long it takes
This depends entirely on the child’s age and how often they attend. A young child attending regularly usually works through the Qaida over several months. We do not rush it, because a weak foundation shows up later as difficulty with Tajweed.

Questions about this course
My child is very young. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We teach young beginners regularly. Lessons for small children are kept short and the teacher keeps the pace gentle so the child stays interested.
Do we need to buy a particular Qaida?
Any standard Noorani Qaida is fine. Tell your teacher which edition you have and she will follow it.
My child already knows some letters. Do they still start at the beginning?
The teacher will assess this in the trial class and start at the right point. There is no value in repeating what a child already knows well.
